Comfort for the rooms your ducts never reach

The freezing basement office. The bonus room over the garage. The 1940s house with no ducts at all. A ductless mini-split heats and cools exactly the space you point it at, without tearing the house apart to run ductwork.

Where mini-splits shine in Salt Lake City homes

The valley is full of houses that outgrew their ductwork. Finished basements the furnace barely reaches. Additions the original system never knew about. Bonus rooms over garages that roast in July and freeze in January. Bungalows and cottages from the 1920s through '50s that never had ducts in the first place — many still cooling with a swamp cooler on the roof.

A mini-split solves the room instead of re-engineering the house. One small outdoor unit, a refrigerant line through a three-inch opening, and a quiet indoor head that heats and cools exactly where you live.

Room-by-room control, real efficiency

Every head is its own zone with its own thermostat. The basement guest room stays off until someone visits. The office holds 70 while the rest of the house coasts. Nobody fights over one hallway thermostat, and you stop paying to condition rooms nobody's in.

The efficiency story is just as strong. Inverter-driven compressors ramp up and down instead of slamming on and off, and with no ductwork there are no duct losses — a meaningful share of central-system output never makes it through attic or crawlspace ducts. Mini-splits deliver everything they make directly into the room.

Installed clean, sized honestly

Mini-splits forgive nothing on installation: a sloppy vacuum pull or a kinked line set shortens the life of an otherwise great system. We pull and verify a proper vacuum, torque flare fittings to spec, and route lines so they disappear into the architecture instead of crawling across it. And we size by the room's actual load — an oversized head short-cycles and leaves the space clammy and uneven, so bigger is not better here.

Pricing

What drives the price

Mini-split pricing scales with how many rooms you're conditioning and how the refrigerant lines have to run. Your free estimate maps it out room by room. The number moves with:

  • Number of zones — a single room is a very different job than a whole house
  • Indoor unit style: wall-mounted heads, ceiling cassettes, or low-profile floor units
  • Line set runs — distance and routing between the outdoor unit and each head
  • Electrical work, from a simple circuit to a panel upgrade on older homes
  • Capacity and whether you need cold-climate heating performance

How it works with us

No surprises, start to finish

  1. Free in-home estimate

We look at the rooms, talk through how you use them, and plan head placement and line routing you can live with.

  2. Zone plan in writing

Equipment options per room with honest advice on what's worth zoning and what isn't.

  3. Install day

Heads mounted, lines run clean and concealed where possible, vacuum pulled and verified, system charged and tested. Single-zone installs usually finish in a day.

  4. Remote in your hand

We set up the controls, show you heating and cooling modes, and register your warranty before we leave.

Ductless Mini-Splits questions

Straight answers

Can one mini-split do my whole house?

One head conditions the space it can see, so a single unit works for an open area — not for a warren of closed rooms. Whole-house ductless means multiple heads on a multi-zone outdoor unit. Honest answer: sometimes that's brilliant, and sometimes central equipment wins. We'll tell you which house you have.

Do mini-splits heat in the winter?

Yes — they're heat pumps. Cold-climate models keep heating in serious sub-freezing weather, which covers the basements, additions, and garages we install them in across the valley. For a garage gym in January, a cold-climate head beats a space heater in every way.

Do I have to look at a white box on the wall?

Not necessarily. Wall heads are the workhorse, but ceiling cassettes sit flush overhead, and low-profile floor units tuck under windows. On remodels we can often recess the equipment so the room reads clean.

What maintenance does a mini-split need?

Less than most equipment, but not zero. The washable filters behind the front panel want a rinse every month or two, and the system benefits from a professional cleaning and check periodically — the indoor coil and blower wheel collect film over time, which quietly eats capacity.

Are they really that efficient?

Ductless systems skip duct losses entirely — and ducts through hot attics or cold crawlspaces waste a surprising share of what your central system produces. Add inverter compressors that sip power at part load, and mini-splits routinely post the best efficiency numbers in HVAC. Room for room, they're hard to beat.
